Mounting Guidelines

PowerPlus jacks come in a range of styles and sizes to suit your unique needs. PowerPlus Swing Jacks are used on many types of vehicles weighing up to 20,000 pounds.  PowerPlus Scissor Jacks are used on vehicles with low ground clearance and weighing up to 15,000 pounds. PowerPlus 13.5-inch Vertical Jacks are used on vehicles with more clearance and weighing up to 20,000 pounds. PowerPlus 20-inch Vertical Jacks are most often used as front landing gear for 5th wheel vehicles or as the front jack in a three-point leveling system for a motorized vehicle.

General Installation Tips

  • PowerPlus's uniquely flexible system design allows you to select the exact jack combination that is right for your unit.

  • Use the jack mounting guidelines on the following pages to determine which jack offers the best fit for your particular unit.

  • For the best performance from the system, the levelers should generally be mounted directly behind the front and rear axle, as close to the axle as possible.

  • The left and right jacks should be mounted the same distance from the axle(s) to ensure proper operation.

  • Each leveler is to be mounted so that when it is in the retracted position there is a minimum clearance of 8 inches between the ground and the lowest part of the jack.

  • Be certain that clearance is available in all directions. When the jacks are extended allow ground clearance of 3 inches for new units only. This allows for settling of the suspension. On older vehicles ground clearance may be reduced to 2 inches. If a jack is located within 3 inches of any exhaust manifold, pipe, or other heat emitting device a heat shield must be installed.

  • It is important that levelers not be mounted beyond the chassis' original frame. Because the frame extension may not have the structural integrity of the original frame member.

  • When mounting Jacks on the rear of towables, they should be located far enough forward from the back of the frame to avoid the possibility of dragging the jack when the unit "dips" going over speed bumps and curbs.

  • NEVER weld the leveler directly to the frame of the vehicle. Always utilize the mounting plate or brackets as indicated in the mounting guidelines.

  • Never substitute wire gauges for a smaller diameter wire.  Overheating of electrical conductors can be a potential fire hazard, can cause improper operation, and can void the warranty.

  • The enclosed measurements assume a new, unloaded vehicle.  When determining mounting clearances for an older unit, or one that is fully loaded, reduce the ground clearance by ½ to 1 inch.

When considering the mounting of Swing jacks, 2" x 5" steel tubing shown below left (not provided) may be added to the side of the frame to support the mounting plate (which is provided). On the following page are several suggestions for orientation of the Swing jacks.

When considering the mounting of Scissor jacks, the steel tubing mentioned may be added with either the 2" side or the 5" side against the frame. This will be determined by the direction in which the jacks are to be oriented. That is, if the 2" side is against the frame then the jacks will mount parallel to the frame and conversely if the 5" side is against the frame then the jacks will mount perpendicular to the frame.

Vertical jacks may be mounted with either the 5" or 8" side parallel with the vehicle frame. However, the mounting bracket welded to the jack only allows the 5" mounting. If it is desirable to mount the 8" side against the frame because of the mounting space available that is to be specifically requested at the time of order.

Also now available, at an additional nominal cost, is a Bolt-On mounting bracket shown above right. This bracket may be used by orienting either the short or long base to the frame of the vehicle. Call your chassis manufacturer for information regarding placement of holes to be drilled.
